Torren Martyn and the Best Twin-fin Edit You’ll See Today
Another reason to drop the centre fin.
Dig the high lines, the speed and projection of the two-finned surfcraft! Your host today is the wandering Torren Martyn. One might say he’s on a good wicket, spending his days kicking around in a packed Land Rover Defender seeking out exceptional, uncrowded waves. While you’re hammering keys nine-to-five, Torren and his filmer friend Ishka Folkwell are out on the road documenting what lies beyond the dirt roads, leafy forests and grassy headlands of Australia.
This is the first slice of the short series he’s put together with Poler and SurfStitch called Lost Track. Set to the mellow surf tones of the Allah Las, this edit’s all twin-fin (and not the soft, fun-board kind that the stereotypes insist), with Torren preferring to ride a knifelike silhouette that can handle life in the pocket. Similar to the approach of Asher Pacey or Ryan Burch, his turns are tight and critical, while the green tunnels towards the end are threaded with mastery. Keep it dialled for the upcoming episodes and a full length release in July, in the meantime question the contribution of the centre skeg.
