What Youth vs Surfer is the excitement you need today!

Forget about Trump, or Zika, or Syria, or Pipeline, or El Nino – this is the most gripping news in your world today. Tighten your buckle before you swan dive into the lava! What Youth, careful curators of their own brand of cool, have fired shots at Surfer Magazine (and Surfing Magazine, to a lesser extent), via Instagram. And much like the bear who’s lured to honey despite the bees, Stab will give this press-snatch the oxygen it doesn’t really deserve. Now, try to wrap your head around this sordid fray: Earlier today, WY posted a screenshot of a Surfer Instagram post. It featured an admittedly Boardriders Club-esque photo of Asher Pacey, as he “banks one down the line on a playful board, smiling all the way.” WY were enraged by the post: Dear @surfer_magazine,@asher_pacey and your million+ followers deserve better than this photo and caption. You are the “Bible of the sport,” and have a storied legacy of editors and photographers who are probably shitting themselves at seeing this. Please, we all deserve better from you. Surfers, editors, photographers, followers. This is our lives and just because you’re trying to appease a mil worth of followers, remember when you post something like this you make us all look like kooks. So please, stop it.Sincerely, What Youth (love heart emoji) PS: And for God’s sake people, stop “liking” this shit. Intern tries to make large impact? WY social manager starts happy hour early on hump day, starts feeling sexy and confident, and snarks? Or, WY plays much needed surf media watch dog? Wade through the piousness and you might just find it’s the latter! Speaking of wading, Surfing Life’s editor, Wade Gravy, entered the tornado of comments below WY’s post: Meow! That’s the lamest tirade on the internet today. “This is our lives.” Wait, what? I’d hate to be working at @surfer_magazine or @surfingmagazine having to endure this barrage of wet-fish slap downs. Was this an attempt at feud starting a decision made by the team, or the petulant elitism of one intern? Whatever it is, it sucks the most, but probably has the more pugnacious of your teenage fanboys busting with rigidity, hoping that by jumping into your corner might get them an invite to your next circle jerk. Focus on doing you and get that right, before you expend the effort required to rag on someone else WY then followed up by posting a screenshot of a Surfing Magazine IG post, which featured an admittedly not amazing photo of Taylor Knox. PS: @surfingmagazine we see you too… Food for thought: What Youth’s prior post featured shaky footage of Dion Agius riding a bike around Panama. Guess it just depends what you’re into. Praying for Surfer and Surfing. 🙁
