Say No To Nukes At San O!

Community rallies to protect one of California’s most iconic surf spots from a nuclear future.

It has been more than two months since 73 massive canisters of nuclear waste began to find there way beneath ground, just south of Southern California’s perhaps most fabled cobblestones, Trestles, as well as one of it’s most storied icons of the culture’s early days, San Onofre.

And the community isn’t taking it standing down. Photographer, surf rat chaperone, and venerable San O Mama Bear, Andrea Coleman, has been rallying the dirt lot into a frenzy the last month, along side the San Onofre Surf Co., continuing to make the necessary noise around San Onofre’s truly terrifying nuclear future, which surfers and the San Clemente at large have been fighting for some time now.

While there are certainly legal and lobbying efforts underway, Coleman and the San Onofre Surf Co. have come up with a too easy way for surfers to contribute to the cause:

We’ll let Coleman take it from here:

“The current plan is to store the hazardous nuclear waste in canisters approximately 100 feet from our shore, not far from where you paddle out to enjoy the waves and where you gather with your friends and family. Not to mention this lies on an active fault line. For countless years surfers have come to these beaches to spend quality time with friends and family and surf these world class waves. If we don’t act now future generations will be left with a toxic environment.

Our goal is raise enough money through the sale of a one of a kind T-Shirt designed by local Orange County artist Sam Bernal. This limited edition T-Shirt will only be made available for the sole purpose of raising awareness and to fight against  this possible Fukushima type disaster. One hundred percent off all profits made will go towards buying the front page of 3 major newspapers, The LA Times, OC Register and The San Diego Union Tribune. By doing this we are forcing the influential main stream media to finally bring what is happening to the millions of voters and the lives that this will affect.

Don’t let Lowers, Trestles, San Onofre and as far South as the border be just a memory or a picture in a History book. As a community we have to come together and fight this.

Please share this link to our “Just San No” T-shirt sale on all your social media platforms. Share the information with your friends and family. We owe this to future generations.”

You can grab your tee, and support the cause, here.
