The injury list is growing and with it, the replacements. Filipe Toledo’s out for Bells and Margaret River on account of the groin injury that he suffered in the semis at Snapper. The always enjoyable, Mason Ho, will be taking the wildcard spot at Bells. An aura of excitement is added to the next event with Mase. In competition we’ve seen the kid do disco floaters, perfect tens that mysteriously vanished from the internet, switch take offs and some of the best post heat interviews known to modern day surfing.

Rookie, Jack Freestone, fell victim to a serious leg injury post Snapper. The rocky road of the CT begins to bog down on Mr Freestone and Dusty Payne will be taking his place for Bells. Dusty is a surfer (based solely on his skills) that should be on tour, although his results haven’t been able to keep him fully locked in.

At the Quiksilver Pro, replacements Sebastian Zietz and Stu Kennedy, made a strong case for their spots in the big league. Seabass, who’s spent some time on tour was looking crisp at Snapper locking in a ninth place finish. Stu, shocked and awed, riding an alien looking Tomo shaped-Slater Designs, made a hard run to the semis. “A lot of people forget that Bede Durbidge got on tour as an injury replacement,” Mr Kennedy told the WSL, “and surfed well enough to stay there. We’re basically trying to do the same.” Adam Melling will also be rejoining the crew for Bells while Owen Wright, Bede Durbidge and Alejo Muniz remain on the DL.
