Padang ain’t really turned it on yet, this year. Much to the disdain of the Rip Curl Cup organisers, who’re sitting tight waiting for an approaching swell that’ll mean they can run the event. The swell’s charged through Western-Australia, big and cold, wind-blown, on its way to Indo. This shot was pulled from the archives by a nostalgic Nate Lawrence (who resides in Bali and is currently on the edge of his seat, right there with the event organisers), mostly to remind us, and himself, of what Padang can offer. If all goes to plan, the swell will stomp through Padang and the event’ll score, big time. Wouldn’t it be a treat if it was like this?
