Stab Podcast: Is Gabriel Medina Hustling The Judges Before Newcastle?
And how our co-host is a WSL sleeper agent.
#Itson…tomorrow. But today, we have the Stab CUSP.
In this episode, Stace and I discuss the upcoming WSL event, who’s in, who’s out, coaching changes, forecasts, spot descriptions, and most importantly, our expected winners, upon which we diverged greatly.
I mentioned that of all the edits dropped following the Tour’s release from quarantine, Medina arguably looked the worst. Stace went onto explain that, 1. that’s irrelevant because Gabby always does his best surfing in competition, and 2. he could be playing a mind game with the judges and broader surfing public.
This was an accidental reference to a conversation that Danny Johnson had with Ryan Callinan just last week on The Drop. Ryan revealed that he doesn’t like dropping quality freesurf clips prior to an event window for fear that people (i.e. the judges) may place unfair expectations on his surfing.
So is Gabby employing similar tactics, or is he just hungover from 14 days in the hole? We’ll let this recent clip, which was dropped just after Stace and I finished chatting, speak for itself:
In this ep, Stace and I also dive into a recent Stab Premium piece about priority, and whether or not it actually matters in competition.
Lastly, Stace reveals that he’s been contracted by the WSL to infiltrate Stab and take our organization apart piece by piece…or something to that effect. Whatever he said, I definitely don’t trust the two-headed hydra.
Listen above or on Spotify, Soundcloud, or Apple Pods. Just search ‘Stab Podcasts’ and Zuck will do the rest.
