Someone Caught A Seven Foot Great White Off The Huntington Beach Pier Yesterday
Bait and switch.
The U.S. Open is six months away, the freaks are still hibernating in the woodwork and the crowds splitting peaks north and south of the pier are comprised of locals. February in Huntington Beach is tranquil and it was all going according to season until a fisherman hooked a not-so-little juvenile seven-foot Great White Shark.
Yesterday around lunch, the young predator took the bait at the end of the famed Surf City pier. For about an hour, the fisherman attempted to reel it in. The line snapped and shark receded into the depths.
Shortly after, the area from towers nine through 14 was put under an “advisory”…because we all know a shark would never dream of swimming all the way up to tower 15.
“They’re getting to be fairly common,” said Marine Safety Lt. Claude Panis with no hint of irony.
The advisory was dropped this afternoon.
