Shark Knocks Surfer Off Board At Bondi
An unseasonably grey Tuesday in Sydney’s Bondi Beach just got a whole lot more uninviting after a six foot shark decided to ride tandem with a local surfer. Dean Norbun was having a swing on the iconic stretch in average conditions when the shark reportedly surfaced, mounting his board before swimming off under another surfer. The lifeguard service then promptly sounded the alarm clearing the water for safety reasons. The seasoned local was surfing in the choppy waters at the south end of the beach around 7am when the meeting occurred. “Something rushed by me and jumped onto my board,” said Dean. “I’ve looked down. Orginally I thought it was a seal but it wasn’t. It was a shark.” The encounter comes as the beach approaches its busiest period of the year. On a clear day there would have been dozens more people in the water swimming and surfing. Dean was relatively unfazed by the run-in and says he would return to the water.
