Meet The Colourful Pair Joining Asher Pacey And Otis Carey In Fiji With Vonu

A survivalist and a comedian walk into a Fijian bar…

Stab backed Vonu’s latest Instagram competition because it didn’t root its mechanic in narcissism.

Well, kinda. You could win a DHD twin and an unhealthy amount of Vonu beer for participating, but mostly it was about nominating a pal to join Asher Pacey and Otis Carey on a Fijian boat trip.

The Vonu cats squared out their eyesight filtering through hundreds of #vonufirstmate Instagram posts, eventually narrowing down to an impressive top ten lineup of shredders you mightn’t have heard of.

We ran our own poll here on Stab (which had no influence on the result) and you pitched Jarrah Tutton up top with Sam Lendrum and Mr Lewie Dunn nipping at his heels.

In the end Vonu decided that the boat had space for a second ‘mate’ and so opened up another slot aboard their vessel. After much deliberation, and reportedly some internal conflict, they’ve handed it over to Jarrah and Lewie.

Confirmed: Lewie can lock a left hand tube. (Photo: Harry Mark/Instagram)

Lewie Dunn is a surf multi-instrumentalist. Slide his feed and you’ll notice the Novacastrian looks good wearing anything from a log, to a thruster, a keeled twin or even an electric guitar and a microphone. We suspect he’ll leave the latter behind for his trip aboard the Vonu Express, however we’re hoping he slides a few alternative shapes into his board bag. You never know, his twin talents might just give ol Pacey a run for his money.

Mr Buddons is a colourful chap. If you have a spare minute, swing by his alter ego/handle Dunnis Daily Motivators, if you’re not a complete stiff you might appreciate his humour.

Boat trips can get serious, shacking up for extended periods with the same company, can become a drag pretty quick. Last thing you want onboard is a wet blanked and Lewie might just add a pinch of much needed flavour to the mix.

Perhaps it’s his indiscriminate board preferences, or more likely, a shared Deus affiliation, but Lewie had the support of Harrison Roach as well as fellow Newcastle pal and the best surfer to not have a spot on the World Tour, Ryan Callinan.

If (heaven forbid) Vonu’s flagship vessel were to go down somewhere in the far reaches of Fiji’s atolls, Jarrah Tutton would be the ideal man to join you on a deserted island. He’d provide the food, build the shelter and sniff out the nearest surf break to keep you entertained.

There was a time when Jarrah sported a VA on the beak of his board (now Depactus), so you bet he’ll be pushing up on his fellow seamen in the lineup. While Lewie will have the alt craft and lols covered, it’ll be Jarrah who’ll be reeling in dinner and knifing the set of the day at Thundercloud.

Jarrah comes with alternative perks. (Photo: Instagram)

Jarrah had support from a prestigious list of names including Luke Dorrington, Dean Morrison and Logian Dulien of the famed Snapt series and together will Mr Dunn, should make for a healthy balance of personalities aboard the Vonu Express.
