Huge Wraps And Shaky Tunnels: Mason Ho Wins The HIC Pro At Sunset
With a 9.0 tube in the dying minutes of the final to beat Jack Robinson.
His father, Michael Ho, had won it four times and now Mason Ho has claimed his second HIC Pro title in solid north west walls at Sunset Beach. Often referred to as one of the more challenging contest locations due to its unpredictable nature of wonk and spontaneously clamping tubes, this year’s event was gifted with a cleaner canvas for the QS crowd to work with. With only minutes remaining in the final Mason conjured local wisdom to seek out an exceptional tube (worthy viewing above) that awarded him a 9.0 and victory over Australian Jack Robinson. Makua Rothman and sixteen year-old Finn McGuill earned themselves third and fourth respectively and Eli Olsen took the Regional Champion Trophy, $5k and his name in the seed list for next year’s QS10,000 events.
