Josh Kerr And Fam Have (Almost) Solidified Another Overseas Holiday Courtesy Of The Four Seasons

Let’s be honest, Kerrzy will make the finals in the thruster division of the Surfing Champion Trophy and win the event.

At the Surf Ranch during the Founders’ Cup, we discussed surfboards and man-mosas with Josh Kerr. He talked about his strict twin fin and assym regiment.

He told Stab, “I don’t think I’ll ever ride a thruster again.”

And, due to his recent success at the Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy, his aptitude on boards sans a back fin is riding high.

Today, at Sultans, the waves were white hot – rip-worthy walls with a chance of drainer.

Josh surfed a level above the competition but we will get to the final shortly.

The day started with two Ex-CT heavies, the 2001 World Champ Sir CJ Hobgood vs the rock-sliding Freddy Patacchia Jr. Freddy P would lose out to CJ’s diamond cutting backhand gashes that possess the same laser precision as they did two decades ago. CJ would eventually lose to the Brazilian vying for CT re-qualification, Alejo Muniz while Josh Kerr sneaked past local wildcard Abdulla ‘Fuku’ Areef in the semis.

Alejo was in form. He diced his way into the final. But let’s face it, no one in this event has been riding twin fins with the same aplomb as Kerrzy. He beat Alejo with a final heat score of 17.26, including a near perfect 9.63.

Tomorrow will see the thruster-division. We are predicting another Josh v Alejo final, which will, in turn, result in a win for Josh Kerr. He’s dominated this event. Although he hasn’t ridden a thruster since he left the World Tour surely, there will be no learning curve when that fin beneath his backfoot gives him the drive he knew and loved for years.

Bruce Irons never made it to the Maldives, and thus is out of the competitive field.

Twin Fin Division Results
1. Josh Kerr
2. Alejo Muniz
3. C.J. Hobgood equal with Abdulla Fuku Areef
5. Freddy Patacchia Jnr
