Jordy Smith, Like, Right Now
Apart from hanging out at home in South Africa with babe’n new gal Lyndall Jarvis, what’s Jordy Smith got going on? What’s his vibe on this year’s tour? Kid was kind enough to give Stab a lil’ snapshot into his mind, this hot minute. Unlike Jordy himself, it’s short and sweet. Jordy Smith: “Lately, I’ve been at home in South Africa, just sorting out a few things. I leave for the Maldives on monday, so I’ve been packing and getting everything ready for the trip. I really hope we get a few waves – it’s a super fun place. I’m basically going there to get some warm water sections. And then, afterwards, I head straight into the Mr Price Pro, Durban, which is at my home break. It’s a quick little warm-up before J-Bay starts. Another victory at J-Bay would mean a lot. I mean, there’s nothing like your first win, but backing it up with another is even better. I’ve never, ever thought about competing at home as being harder ’cause of expectation. I think it goes a lil’ bit both ways. You wanna win ’cause it’s home, but then again you have everybody behind you, so it makes things very comfortable. I’m gonna do a few Prime events this year, but only the ones that are on my home turf. And possibly Hawaii, I guess. It’s just convenient, so why not? With the one-world ranking, it’s more important to do the Prime events now and there’s more dream tour guys doing them. For the guys that aren’t doing too great in the first half of the year, I think it’s important to do Primes, to try and keep their seed up.”
