JOB vs Wedge – a gallery
Jamie O’Brien took on The Wedge in Newport, CA a few days ago. This you probably know by now. But we felt these images too good not to run. “The last time I surfed the Wedge was about two or three years ago,” said Jamie. “It was big, it was 10 feet, the real deal. The Wedge is a real heavy wave and you’ve gotta be careful, but you’ve gotta take risks too, y’know? Some really nice sets came in, I’d say this one set was 10 feet Hawaiian. I wanted one so bad but I was in the wrong spot. I tried to take one and… took a couple wipeouts. It’s one of the most dangerous waves in California. I compare it to waves at home, y’know, it likes to hold you under and hold you under. You’re trying to find the bottom to push off to get a nice kick back up. It ripped my leash straight out of my board. This is supposed to be a rounded pin. Ripped it straight out.” Not to be taken lightly, huh?
