Jaws Will run Sunday
The call has been made, the Pe’ahi challenge will run on Sunday! Here’s what the Big Wave World Tour commissioner Pete Mel had to say today: “We are green lit for Sunday, starting at 8:00 am. Shane Dorian, Ian Walsh and Makua Rothman are just three of the 24 competing. It’s exciting stuff, it’s going to be a little wild, we’ve got a bit of trade winds – you know what it’s like on maui – but it’s an ok direction and the the boys are psyched. We’re heading to Pe’ahi, and we’re going to ride some big waves.” Surfline, official forecasters for the 2015/2016 WSL BWT season, are reporting: Very long period energy will be on the rise rapidly through the afternoon/evening hours on Saturday with sets up to 25-35’+ faces (15-18’ Hawaiian) by sundown. At this point we expect to see the swell peak in the pre dawn hours on Sunday (~2AM), with the strongest waves at Jaws at first light on Sunday in the 30-45’+ range on the face (20’+ Hawaiian), although gradually easing. The swell will ease further through the day, but should remain in the 25-35’+ range (15-18’+ Hawaiian) through mid afternoon. The cast: Makuakai Rothman (HAW) Gabriel Villaran (PER) Nic Lamb (USA) Anthony Tashnick (USA) Greg Long (USA) Nathan Fletcher (USA) Grant Baker (ZAF) Natxo Gonzales (EUK) Patrick Gudauskas (USA) Carlos Burle (BRA) Ian Walsh (HAW) Albee Layer (HAW) Billy Kemper (HAW) Shaun Walsh (HAW) Kai Lenny (HAW) Tyler Larronde (HAW) Shane Dorian (HAW) Kelly Slater (USA) Mark Healey (HAW) David Wassel (HAW) Aaron Gold (HAW) Alex Gray (USA) Nic Vaughan (USA) Trevor Sven Carlson (HAW) Tune in on Sunday and watch the carnage, right here.
