Jack Robinson Just Dropped A Near-Perfect Heat At The Volcom Pipe Pro
West Oz prodigy scores a 10 and a 9.57 – tune in for more!
Even when “small” by conventional (Hawaiian) standards, Pipeline still offers the type of waves that make vacationing grandmas point and say, “Ooooh, would you look at that!”
After a brutal wipeout and board break in his Round 5 heat, Jack Robinson kicked his act into high gear. On his very next wave, Jack leaned into a ledging Backdoor wall and pumped through section after section, keeping his arms low all the way through the exit and finishing with an end-section snap.
“Irons-esque”, is how commentator Sal Masekela called the ride.
Jack then backed that wave up with another beyond-excellent 9.57, which he achieved by arm-barring a spinning Backdoor cauldron all the way to the dry part of the reef.
If you’re wondering what makes Jack such a stellar tube-rider, it’s a combination of practice, fearlessness, and a front leg positioned just-so as to absorb the imminent shocks of an aqueous cavern.
While recalling his performance from the safety of the commentary booth, Jack witnessed a remarkably deep Backdoor runner from his Hawaiian equivalent Barron Mamiya (which scored a 9) and two 2s-that-were-almost-10s by Soli Bailey and Dusty Payne.
In other words: what the fuck are you doing with your Tuesday? Tune into the VPP right now!
