Here’s What A Foil To The Head Looks Like
Damien Hobgood stars in this proper stitch up!
Today in news that won’t affect your daily life whatsoever: Damien Hobgood was reportedly whacked by a foil while on a trip to Fiji last week, requiring stitches to the dome.
Stab has been unable to reach him for comment, so who was wielding the offending flying ocean knife, whether the injury came at his own hands or those of another, is undetermined.
Whichever the case, said injury must not have been too bad as Hobgood continued to surf after getting his stitches in Fiji at the time. Boog legend Mike Stewart and Catch Surf’s Chris Monroe were also there and were unaware the incident occurred. Which is unsurprising, Damo is a certified madman.
According to Monroe:
“I was out in the water when someone was doing it [foiling] at Restaurants. It’s the first time I’ve been underwater shooting when that thing comes by you, because I was like, ‘I’ll get a cool shot of that thing, whatever, the foil…’
“It’s gnarly. It’s super gnarly. I’m petrified of them. Like, I don’t think I’m gonna try to shoot water shots around these anymore.”
With an ever increasing number of surfers, both professional and not, picking up the crafts it’s fair to say we can expect to see an increase in foil related injuries in the very near future. Which is okay. Because playing in the ocean is dangerous and we’re all destined to take the occasional trip to the ER.
That said, this writer plans to stick to safer hobbies when the surf is tiny. Like spearfishing or breaking his fat ass in half at the local skatepark.
