Confessions Of An 11x World Champ, Robert Kelly Slater

On stealing silverware, towels and more in his recent “Conde Nast Traveller” interview.

“I used to collect the silverware from room service—that used to be my thing,” cops Kelly Slater in a not-so-explosive new interview.

Bearing his soul, the champ recently sat down for an interview with Conde Nast Traveller and came clean about his dirty, little secrets from the road. Like a pirate plundering the high seas, or an ex-president in an unsuspecting bank, turns out, his thieving ways weren’t just relegated to forks and spoons.

“And then, you know, if I need a towel and a hotel has a really nice towel, then maybe I’ll grab one,” he continues.

Good gracious! Not the towels!

There are other reveals in the piece. When asked about a “place that lived up to the hype,” he unexpectedly pointed to Paris.

Paris? Wasn’t there rumor of a Slater wave pool being built in Paris in time for the 2024 Olympics?

“I love how normal everyday people get to live in these gorgeous old buildings. It’s almost like something out of a fairy tale,” he explained. “Paris is such a valuable cultural experience.”

No argument here, Paris is definitely like being in a Grime fairy tale.

Other notables on the G.O.A.T.’s list? He’s not a huge fan of L.A., which seems weird for a guy that once attended a wedding for Pamala Anderson’s dogs.

He loves Sydney and escaping to the Northern Beaches. And, of course, Pipe visions served as his “favorite view.”

In unrelated hotel news, Slater points to the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah in Dubai and the craziest hotel he’s ever been too.

“It’s on the water, and it’s built to look like a giant sail. My friend had this incredible room, all the furniture was giant, like something out of Dr. Seuss. Everything was gold, and there was a tennis court on the roof,” Slater says.

We just hope his buddy checked the silverware before Kelly left.
