Alessa Quizon Breaks Her Engagement With Medina’s Arch Nemesis, Couples Instead With UFC Star

So long Caio Ibelli, hello Max Holloway.

Not one year ago, the Hawaiian and former-CT surfer, Alessa Quizon, cohabitated in a camper van with her boyfriend, Brazilian and current-CT surfer, Caio Ibelli, in the Margaret River carpark, perfectly positioned to augment his career and forge a forever love.

Caio got third in WA—his (tied-for) best result in 2019. Not long after that, he proposed to Alessa, which she accepted happily, ring glistening on her finger etc.

Everything was going great for surfing’s tiniest couple. Then came Portugal.

In a lopsided Round 4 heat, Gabriel Medina inexplicably shoulder-checked Ibelli without priority, leading to a heat (and ultimately, World Title) loss.

An incensed Medina then directed what should have been self-facing anger toward the WSL, posting a doctored video to his Instagram that showed why he “should have had priority”. He also blocked Caio.

This resulted in thousands of death threats for the blameless Ibelli.

The kitchen got so hot that Ibelli’s fiance, the aforementioned Alessa Quizon, decided to weigh in on her own heavily-trafficked Instagram:

“It’s a shame that you got people from where you’re from shaming on you,” she wrote. “Where I’m from we support our people no matter the cause. Everyone’s chasing a dream and we don’t forget that at the end of the day they represent our hometown, our country. Both parties should be respected. Don’t hate on the athlete, hate on the game/the system.”

That was posted around mid-October. Some time within the next month, things must have gone awry between Quizon and Ibelli.

Come Triple Crown season, it was clear to everyone on Oahu that Caio and the native Hawaiian were no longer an item.

Alessa attended Surfer Poll with friends, not Caio, and that sparkling engagement ring was nowhere to be seen. Further investigation revealed that the two had deleted any digital trace of their coupling (all together IG posts, vanished!), and to truly finalize the split, unfollowed each other on social media.

Since that time, it appears that Alessa has found a new love interest in the form of Hawaiian UFC star, Max Holloway. In an Instagram post yesterday, Alessa revealed her adoration for the former featherweight champ to her near-500k disciples.

Her IG post is captioned simply: “[heart emoji]”.

At time of writing, Max Holloway has not reciprocated the “Insta-official” gesture to his 1.9M followers.

If it’s any consolation for Caio, his arch-nemesis Gabriel Medina has since unblocked him on all social platforms. So there’s that.
