Asher Pacey Finds A Home With RVCA

Chalk it up to the twin fins, smooth glide, and drifts of the tail into marshmallow whitewash. Blame it on five piggies dangling from the nose of a fish that lines across chest-to-head dreamscape tunnels from Greenmount to Sandspit. Place it on a laid back vibration, and Matt Kleiner directed edits that ready your AMEX to purchase a stubby solid-colored DHD, fins glassed on.

But when it’s all said and done, it’s the crystal obsession. No, no.

It’s the hair, darling.

We’re pro-Asher for all of the above, few surfers today keep the profile he maintains without feeling contrived. It’s off the grid; it’s artsy but not too; it’s deep in the dirt, cracking open rocks for treasure. It’s cosmic, at times. But, most of all, it’s genuine. Which is why we nearly spilled our drinks with the announcement that Asher and RVCA have combined forces for what will no doubt be a fruitful relationship. A man who surfs as good as Mr. Pacey couldn’t remain unsponsored for long.

Plus, we got wind of this deal eight-ish months ago. Frantic, we scribbled the news into one of our Gossip Girls–wild with excitement, our tapping fingers holding back exclamation points. But at the time, we had some misinformation. A rumor it was. Fact, it was not.

Due to our premature announcement and Asher’s then deal with Rhythm, his paycheck found itself under threat. Shortly after, Asher and Rhythm parted ways, and Asher’s presence in surfing became a soft breath of single wave clips, occasionally making their way onto Instagram. It felt as if Johnny Coltrane lost then found his tenor saxophone, if only for a brief minute. 

But now we rejoice, such staggered breath is over! Today, it’s with fluttering eyes and red-palmed applause that RVCA welcomes Asher Pacey to the team.
