Last year, at the Volcom Fiji Pro, there was a swell-of-the-century situation a-happenin’ and the 34 were not prepared for it. Big waves require big boards (ain’t nobody towing Cloudbreak), and most coffins were filled with all-rounders for Restaurants or slight step-ups for Cloudbreak. Then, That Day happened, and the contest was called off because everyone was under-gunned.
This year, howevs, there shall be no such excuses made because the top 34 will be prepared. ASP WCT Manager Renato Hickel just sent an email around to everyone on the dream tour, saying this:
“I’m sure most of you are getting ready and prepared, but I still want to send you guys this reminder to come prepared to surf large waves if the conditions are right. So plan to bring the equipment you would want, surfboards and/or flotation vests if you want/need them.”
Hoo-boy, that sounds kinda rain-hail-or-shine-esq, doesn’t it? We love us some thicker juice for the jerseys, and should Cloudbreak deliver again, the 34 will be prep’d and ready to descended like little lambs into the abattoir. Pray to the webcast gods that happens.
