Jay Davies And A Board That’s Made For Proper Waves
Need a new stick for winter or your next Indo stint? Chilli might have you sorted.
Summer’s over in the south, the balmy temps have swapped for brisk, cold offshores, and thankfully, those much-loved winter swells are finally marching up whichever coast you reside.
Other than all this meaning you’ll need to don a little extra rubber, and that you’ll be trading onshore slops for full-bodied barrels, it also means you’ll need to ice your summer groveller and tap into something shaped for waves that are actually fucking good.
And Chilli’s Faded is a board designed for these types of waves – the waves you actually want to surf.
The only problem with boards built for proper pumping waves though is they’re occasionally a little tough on the paddle, can be quite unforgiving if you blow your balance on a turn, and if you’re a heavier surfer than most, might not quite float your bulky ass in the first place.
The Faded, however, has compensated.
It’s based on Chilli’s previous model, the Fader.

Don’t tell me you don’t like the feeling of a fresh blade.
This time, James Cheal’s worked alongside Jay Davies to bump up the volume throughout the centre of the board giving it a little extra float. In addition they’ve bulked out the rail for a medium bite in the face and kept a low entry rocker which follows all the way out through the tail, alongside a smooth and consistent single concave.
The board is glassed with 6oz and 4oz deck, featuring a 4oz, Innegra combined bottom with a twin carbon strip for that added flex and reinforcement when you push a little harder on the tail.
Essentially, it’s a board for good fucking waves, just with that added extra bump for when you find yourself out on the face or surfing waves that aren’t quite as good as you expected. And even if you’re not quite as apt as Jay, Chilli assures us the added rail forgiveness assists the lesser skilled too.
And if tech-info ain’t quite what you’re into, then watch Jay Davies’ visual argument for the performance factors of the Faded above.
Need a new stick? Or maybe you just want one? Either way, head over here and check out the Faded.

The twin carbon strip bottom along with the Innegra rolled through the board’s bottom reinforces flex to make sure it lasts in the long term.
