When Autumn rears its golden head in Southern California, the coastal mood soars. It’s a strange, beautiful vibration – a funk phenomena of sorts. Call it Indian Summer, revel in the pastel sunrise, the raspberry sunsets and the fact the children have returned to their first-six period bells. Late September’s when the south and north swells link fingers and embrace the weekend hordes. But, on the bright side, summer’s over, the soft top scene’s dwindled, the water’s still warm, the winds are offshore, and it’s teepees aplenty. To cap it off, Octobre’s around the bend, and although the days are getting shorter, the sand’s falling into place and the beachies from San Diego to Ventura are taking shape.

In Los Angeles last weekend, while the majority of the all-too-big city was shaking off their hangovers with turmeric shots, green juice, and eight dollar cold brews at Erewhon, our dear friend Dylan Goodale opted for a more natural cure. “The BYRD’s Nest hosted a fantastic gathering on Saturday night to premiere a bit of surf porn,” he tells Stab. “And as always there were girls galore! It was followed by Cam’s (Richards) 21st birthday celebration in the darker, Hollywood region… The next morning, I snuck out at a reasonable hour and rode this wave while everybody else was popping their first round of Advil and Yelping the nearest patron of Bloody Marys. Yay surfing!”

That’s one way to shake it off! Good on ya Dyl.
