The Florence brothers, the Johnson’s yard, Hawaii

Meet the Florences. Nathan’s over there on the left, then Johnny – who you may know already – is in the middle, then there’s Ivan on the right. Three brothers, on the grass of the Johnson’s yard (Jack’s parents), preparing their big boards for the swell headed towards the North Shore. Preparing for war. And, looking at the swell forecast for big wednesday, these boards weren’t ambitious. According to photog Blake Kueny, who shot this, the Florence bros weren’t alone, either – not just boards, but cameras too, were, at the moment this shot was taken, being tuned up all over the North Shore.
