Taj Burrow, Mitchell’s, West Australia

Tropical Cyclone Bianca skirted the coast of Western Australia last week, rattling a few houses and scaring a few peeps. Over the weekend it weakened and moved sou-west, kicking up a phenomenal (and incredibly rare) northerly swell coupled with a crisp all-day offshore breeze. The south west coast lit up with peeling right-hand points. Many West Oz locals were calling “best-evers”.  We called our always-excited and hyperbolic pal, Taj Burrow: “It’s probably the best waves I’ve ever seen in my life today. I know I’ve said that a lot lately, but I mean it this time. You should’ve see what went down today. We got this cyclone swell from the north and the whole coast turned into a right-hand point. And it was eight foot! It was so fucken crazy! We surfed the wedge and it was all the way down Mitchell’s beach to pretty much the car park. Stand-up, draining, deadly things. Like, the craziest session ever. I surfed it all day and I pretty much can’t move.”  See! We told you he was excited! -Simon Nicholas
