Here’s footage from another notable east swell to hit the Australian coast during winter. The long-period swell systems muscle up in the Tasman, fill in through deep water and unload on shallow reef slabs. A crop of gents are now magnetised to their form and like you’ll see here from Russ Bierke, Dylan Cram and Darcy Piper there’s a specialist skill to under-the-lip take-offs. “Pretty much the whole south coast crew was there because of the favourable long period wast swell,” said Spencer Frost (@eyeintheskyvisuals) who filmed the session. “A few people from Sydney, Port Macquarie and Newcastle made the mission as well. The swell direction was a bit straight so there were a heap of closeouts, which lead to numerous snapped boards and cut up humans.” And how’s this for the line-up scene. “There was a huge crowd of bodyboarders, around 5 jetskis and 20-plus photographers in and out of the water. But Russ, Dylan and Darcy were owning it.”
