Story Behind The Frame: Jerome Sahyoun’s North Sumatra Air Drop
Like every elevator, there’s no unselecting floors here.
Ever had one song stuck in your head during a session? What melody do you think is repeating for Jerome Sahyoun here? Elevator music, of course!
“My friend and videographer Kako Lopes invited me to shoot off a boat which has literally been my dream, so I couldn’t say no,” says photographer Brie Laking, who snapped the low sweeping Nias angle. “I had no idea it would be such an insane adventure just to get there. We woke up at the butt crack of dawn to shoot amazing waves off an island in North Sumatra.
“When the boat didn’t show up we had to find alternative means to get there. One pair of rented crocs from a local, a motorbike, a canoe that I had to bale out the water, and a broken down boat with one oar (might have been a spoon) later and we made it to our final destination.
“To say the least, it was pretty magical being able to capture Jerome Sahyoun getting a bomb. Where do I sign up for this again?”
