Photolyfe: John Gilman
The last and certainly not least of Stab x O’Neill’s Feels Like Freedom Photolyfe celebration! Confetti inside…
We welcome you back to our #FeelsLikeFreedom Photolyfe celebration!
This is our final feature before this series returns to its regularly scheduled programming – that being occasionally/whenever we feel like it.
So here’s the deal, seven months ago, O’Neill and Stab embarked on a mission to find six images via Instagram that made us feel, er, free. The rules were simple, they had to be lineup shots, and they had to make you want to drop whatever you were doing, wax up a board and plant your feet in it.
Today, we feature New Jersey’s John Gilman. John’s been shooting travel and surf photography and making an honest living with it for the past six years. He studied photography at Ringling College of Art and Design in Florida and graduated in 2016.
“I am particularly inspired by the cold, remote corners of the globe,” John tells Stab. “I try to do a solo trip to a new cold-water spot once a year for an extended period, with the end goal being to one day surf Antartica. Growing up in New Jersey loving the cold was natural and to this day my fondest surfing memories involve running through snow drifts to surf pumping barrels.”
