Matt O’Brien removed himself from the game of surf photography a little while back. Not entirely, but mostly. Why? To start a coffee shop with his girl Alita, called Tome. But luckily for us, the Sunshine-Coaster recently started pointed the lens at surfers again. In this case, Mitch Coleborn.
“Fuck man, my comeback’s been anything but elegant,” laughs Matt. “I drove like a six-hour round trip to go shoot with Chips (wilson) the other day and encountered the fucking worst waves ever – I didn’t even pull my camera out, just turned around and drove back home. I’ve tried shooting around home with Eli Steele and Kai Hing a few times but it’s just been so bad! Today was the first day in weeks of trying that I’ve actually managed to shoot. This wave is one of my favourites to shoot around home because there’s so many angles to work with, and Mitch has this wave down! She’s not an easy wave to surf so I was stoked to meet up with Mitch on a day like this.”
