Mark Mathews and the moody blues of a Sydney winter, NSW

“This is Mark Mathews in southern Sydney at daybreak this morning,” says photographer Rod Owen. Sydney right now is feeling the first (and very icy) clutches of winter – while balmy compared to, say, Canada, it’s still certainly not warm. But the upshot is, these are the months that tend to bring very good waves. “It was absolutely freezing,” continues Rod. “Mark and Richie (Vas) couldn’t walk when we got in.
