Luke Wyllie and the thrills of a West-Australian throw
“Usually, we’re cursed by strong winds over here (in West Oz) so we made the most of the glassy conditions on this morning, which coincided with a solid swell and sunny weather,” photographer Chris Gurney tells Stab of the day you see pictured here. “I love these day trips, drive down to the river, jump on the boat and within half an hour you’re (hopefully) looking into some big barrels. It’s a novelty if you live in Perth because we usually have to drive three hours to get surf. We were on Luke Wyllie’s boat and he was having a field day out there, nabbing the best wave of the day (this) among about a dozen other stand-tall pits.”
