Logan Landry, Snow Surfing in Nova Scotia, Canada

For anyone on the east coast of Australia reading this, the concept that there’s actually cold weather out there is a hard one to fathom. Saturday in Sydney was the hottest day the city’s seen in five years, hitting 42 clicks on the thermometer. On the other side of the world in Nova Scotia, Canada, it was a completely different story. Canada saw a 40cm dump of the white stuff and Logan Landry (pictured here) stomped through knee deep snow to get to the lineup you see above. Bootie, hood and glove-clad in front of a snow-covered beach? Literally a world away from the bubbling tar of Sydney’s roads. On this particular day, Logan and his buddy left home at five in the morning in hope of scoring waves: “We stopped at the famous Tim Horton’s coffee shop. We were the only ones there other than a guy in a ‘bobcat’ smoking a cig and drinking a hot cup of Joe.* As we headed down the highway, we saw waves peeling down the point, the sun coming out and the makings of a perfect surfing day in Nova Scotia.” *For those unfamiliar with a bobcat, it’s a tractor with a large scoop in front of it. The cabin is open, so drivers wear orange one-piece snowsuits, which are often referred to as ‘bobcats’ themselves.
