No one really thought that the world tour would be waking up to a whole lot of swell in J-Bay for the opening round of the J-Bay Open. But the very first birds watched lines peel through the rising sun. And it didn’t stop all day. Round one (and a little of round two) at the J-Bay Open were kinda amazing – at a pointbreak, no spectator wants to watch the world’s best wiggle out put-theres on a two foot face – we want big carves and lip werk and barrels and big green faces. And that’s exactly what we got. Even when the devil was on it and the temperatures chilled bones, there were still barrels. This is Kolohe Andino, who’d late go on to win his first round heat despite the advances of Julian Wilson, lining up just whatcha want at daybreak.
