But it’s all good livin’ until you’re surfing Backdoor and you lose some tooth. “Some sweet backwashes this morning at Backdoor,” Kolohe wrote on Instagram two weeks ago, captioning a selfie he’d ripped that featured some chunks of his front teeth missing. “Perfect for connecting your jaw with your knee. Then connecting your bottom teeth with your top teeth.” He bolted home to California for a coupla days to get his teeth fixed and is already back in Hawaii lighting up.

There’s not a whole lot going on swell-wise at this point in time, and this frontside banger is from a few days ago. But expect much more of this to come, especially considering how much time Brother usually puts in on the North Shore. “Kolohe loves making the jump over here,” says photographer Ryan Miller, who captured this moment. “He was here in January for the Volcom Pipe Pro, then was here again just last week for a few days. Being only five hours from California it’s easy to make the trip over if you see a good swell. He hit it hard for a few days then jumped back home when the waves slowed down and now he is back for the whole Triple Crown.”
