Kerby Brown, slab selfie, WA
Get to know the life of Kerby Brown: He and his bro, Cortney, burn around finding reefs to themselves in WA, capturing exquisite imagery. This shot is from a local reefbreak, which’ll remain unnamed and you shall learn little about, except to say it has a fast, slabbing section that drains real shallow. “It’s pretty tricky holding the camera out here because you’re racing and pumping down the line the whole time trying to make it,” says our ridiculously talented shooter/surfer, Kerby. “I got blown up a few times on the shock wave. You get so pumped holding the camera, trying to not let it smash you in the head. On the really bad beatings it gets ripped out of your hand and it’s flying around everywhere as you’re doing cartwheels underwater. It can be pretty dangerous, but it’s all part of the fun!”
