Kelly Slater, Lower Trestles nosepick, CA
Kelly Slater has won the Lowers world tour event five times before. The fifth occasion of which was last year, after surfing his third consecutive final against Owen Wright in 2011. So, suffice to say the Floridian knows the wave well, likes it, kinda owns it. Riley Blakeway was recently on the beach at Lowers, filming Andrew Doheny, when his 7D ran outta battery. After asking around for a replacement battery (to no avail), he pulled out his film camera to fire off some stills. “The lineup was packed,” Riley says. “Well, it was a typical summer crowd, y’know? So, Kelly was just kinda cruising. But he was still filling his wave-quota, which by anyone else’s standards is real high.” This nosepiece is just the kinda thing you can expect the champ to light up with in five days’ time, when the Hurley Pro fires up.
