After losing in his round of 48 heat at the Telstra Drug Aware Pro, Margaret River, Josh Kerr went to surf The Box before hitting Gas Bay, where Ryan Miller captured this image of him. During the session, Josh was launching airs like the one you see here on most waves and somehow finding tunnels despite the onshore sloppiness. Josh certainly scored the window – as soon as he left the water, the waves turned off and stayed that way.
Stab called Josh this morning and he said that, though he didn’t do so well in the Margaret’s contest, that “It’s always great to get back to the wild West.” Josh couldn’t speak for long as he was trying to navigate a car through the less-than-safe streets of Bali, but during the conversation he did say that he’s shaken off the nerves he felt during his melt-down heat at the Quiksilver Pro, against Ace Buchan, and that it was more of a one-off.
Before signing off, we asked Josh if he was looking forward to the fast-approaching Rip Curl Pro, Bells Beach contest:
“Yeeeaahh, somewhat,” he answered, unenthusiastically. “I don’t get too excited on Bells, cause that place kind of annoys me. I’m just not thinking about it to much, whatever comes up I’ll just go out there and try to get my two waves.”
