Jordy Smith sips an apéritif at Snapper Rocks, QLD

Yep, despite very good sand, the waves have been sloppy at Snapper Rocks, like, pretty much just windswell. Despite that, every surfer on the mens and womens world tours has been lighting it up. Last night’s super session in really not super waves included, among others, Kelly Slater, Julian Wilson, John John Florence, Filipe Toledo, Dane Reynolds, Carissa Moore, and the man pictured rifling this poor wave, Jordy Smith. “Jordy and Kelly were both fitting in some massive turns on junk waves,” says the photographer, Ryan Miller. “Look at the power he’s laying into this thing. Geez!” The Quiksilver Pro waiting period starts tomorrow, and hopefully first light will shine on bigger conditions. Any webcast fan knows not to hold their breath for such things, but… still we do.
