South-African Jordy Smith, fresh back from rib injury, wasn’t quite his usual self in France but had some moments of shining glory and did enough to get himself to the semifinals, where he ultimately fell to Jules Wilson. But Jordy’s presence in France replaced a gap that was missing in NY and at Trestles and boy, did we miss him.
