John John Florence, yoga flex jam, Portugal
Conditions at Peniche have officially reached a climactic low point. Which is the beauty of the ocean! And, kinda rad because it puts the 34 on their toes. John John Florence, pictured here, certainly kept things lively despite a weak and stubborn ocean yesterday. “Yesterday was just about the most shit day for waves yet in Portugal, but somehow it’s been one of the most interesting days to look back at the photos,” says photographer Ryan Miller, who captured this sequence of John John. “You can really appreciate the level this kid’s surfing at when he goes out in small, soft surf. Check where his board and body ends up in frames five and six. This ain’t no chop hop. This was done with power on a wave that offered none. I’m not saying it is easy to do a 10-foot punt in waves of consequence, because it isn’t, but this here is something you can really look at and see how much skill went into it.”
