John John Florence, weight in the front, swing in the back, WA
It’s a layday for the gents at the Margaret River Pro today. Which means nothing but freesurfing for all. Yesterday on the womens side of things, the quarterfinals were decided, and while that was going down, the boys were off hunting the least-crowded reefs and beachies they could get at. John John Florence, pictured here, was one of those on the hunt. His round one heat against Gabs Medina and Kolohe Andino was about as exciting as Margs gets at that size (not huge), and we’re truly hoping to see him put the afternoon wind into the rights to good use. In this sequence, however, it ain’t about the wind – it’s about the locked front foot and the on-axis swivel around it. A play he, and we, know so well, but which neither parties will tire of any time soon.
