John Florence, spitting coins, Gold Coast

How about coming out in your first heat at the Quiksilver Pro, Gold Coast and steaming through like it’s nobody’s biz? Such is John Florence’s game! He wasted no time in wrapping down the face of some kinda fat rights today, way down in Rainbow Bay, and then hucking first into a frontside spin (stomped and finished in the flats). And on his next wave, finishing with the purse drop you see pictured here.

“It’s a new year and everyone is excited to be here,” said John shortly after beating Patty Gudauskas and Kai Otton. “I’ve had a pretty good off season. It was short, but I was able to do some different things like travel to New York and recharge and get ready for the year. The level of surfing on tour is the highest it’s ever been and it’s exciting to be a part of.”
