John Florence, Pipeline shot from behind, Hawaii
The Da Hui Backdoor Shootout is on again for its 2012 instalment. Backdoor and Pipe have turned on and the swell’s trucking at around Hawaiian 8-10 foot, which actually means 10-18 foot faces. The event ran yesterday, but it’s bigger and better today – no wind, no frills. John Florence here has been the man on the North Shore this season. He won the Vans Triple Crown, nailed two 10-point rides during the Pipe Masters (one of which was wave of the event), was all over the biggest swell to hit the North Shore so far (see yesterday’s Full Frame) and will, as he did last year, dominate at both the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout and the Volcom Pipeline Pro. Pictured here, y’see the kid playing an act he’s rehearsed a million times over. The action runs hot on the North Shore and John’s the focus.
