Hey, how about that perfect 20-point heat Joel Parkinson put together today? Whether or not you believe the judges jumped the gun on scores and left themselves nowhere to go but up (which Kelly Slater thinks), one thing is f’sure: Joel won the heat on all counts (which Kelly also thinks). Even the most furious John John supporters must eventually concede.

“Over the years I’ve been coming here, there have been odd moments where you get a wave like that but never the kind of frequency we had in that heat,” said Joel afterwards. “That was just magic. We were throwing away 9s and John was nearly sticking eight-foot corked out rotations. The kid can do it all and he was never one I was going to take lightly.”
