Jay Davies, post-wine and cheese tour, WA
“We spent the whole morning doing the ‘wine and cheese tour’ between the capes,” says photographer Chris Gurney of the West Australian morning we see pictured here, featuring Jay Davies. “At 11am and after five hours of driving the 50km of coastline around Margs, we’d checked pretty much everywhere, done numerous 4wd tracks, had a couple of near misses with roos and still hadn’t been in the ocean. Even if it’s not pumping, you’re best off just surfing the spot you check first, but most of the time we don’t abide by that rule and pay the price (literally, in fuel). In a last ditch effort to get wet we settled on this ok-looking wedge, hoping something would come of it. Two hours later, Jay had stomped a couple of sick airs (including this), the sun was out, the waves were fun and we finally got to call it a successful day’s surfing.”
