And, here, we visit Craig Anderson, 24, born in South Africa, reared in Port Elizabeth, and therefore familiar with the wave pictured. Did you think it was J-Bay? So did we! But, before J-Bay, there was Cape St Francis, sold to the world in Bruce Brown’s 1966 classic The Endless Summer. “There was an epic bank there this winter, left and right, with countless barrels,” says the photographer, Mr Alan van Gysen. “This day was four-to-six feet and… perfect. A bit of rain, but pleasant, even cosy, in a 3/2mm suit and boots.”
