Conner Coffin, Gums, Hawaii
The weather wasn’t great. Neither was the swell. And, it was held at Gums. But, the first-ever Pipeline Pro Junior ran. Why not at Pipe? Too much sand on the reef and a northeast swell. Sponsored by Liam McNamara’s North Shore Surf Shop (as well as a bunch of others), a Pro Junior probs hasn’t been run (or, attempted) at Pipeline before this due to the nature of the wave and the fact that it’s traditionally been a sorter of the men from the boys. Conner Coffin, pictured here, won the event. He’s been in Hawaii for some time, having headed there a little after competing in the Australian Open, Manly and sticking around for a stint. He beat Koa Smith, Ezekiel Lau and Jake Halstead in the final and scooped $2.5k. The first of many victories for this kid, wethinks.
