Bryce Young, behind the Javanese curtain, Indonesia
Now, how about this for a Javanese slab? Bryce Young, pictured here, is one of the best surfer/skater combos you’ll find in Oz, and is particularly talented on an Alaia. While Nat Young, tour surfer from Santa Cruz, shares the same name as Australian surfing royalty, Bryce actually shares lineage – he’s actually the son of the first Nat Young (world champ from Yamba). And while he has the soul (there’s that alaia!), he also swings with the contemps (as seen here). Bryce is currently hanging with Harrison Roach in Indo, filming for a new film, the brilliantly-titled I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night. The duo have been based at the Deus Temple of Enthusiasm, hanging out, watching Pavel shape boards, skating the mini out back, and then getting in the mix with any new swell, of which there’s been a heck-ton lately. Not a bad program to be on.
