Brett Simpson is a Huntington Beach local, and the Hurley Pro at Trestles is as close to a hometown World Tour event as it gets. Sure, the US Open of Surfing lands at his home beach, but it ain’t Dream Tour status. Suffice to say, Simpo wants to kill it there. Which is reflected in his preparation: “Brett’s been down at Lowers nearly every day this week, testing out some new boards,” says our photographer, Quinn Matthews. “He’s been focusing a lot on his turns because with the forecast only showing two to three feet for a large part of the waiting period, a power turn will be rewarded by the judges when most others take to the air.” Lowers starts on September 15, hot damn it, which y’can learn more about here, and here, or here.
