Balaram Stack, backside grip, Hawaii
Since the North Shore morphs into a melting pot of surf steam at year’s end, it’s kinda hard to stand out if you’re not from the Island. Photog Trevor Moran, who’s been doing time there observing and documenting all the flash and trash, has noticed three ways to make a mark. “Charge big waves, boost super technical airs, or become the life of the party,” he suggests. “And Balaram Stack has mastered the art of all three. Between multiple Wave of the Winter nominations, attempting full rotators on a 7’0″ at Pipe, and hosting one of the most entertaining Instagram accounts for a kid in his prime, chances are you’ve heard his name (and if you haven’t you’re missing out).” Despite being from New York, one of the world’s most dense metropolitans, Balaram’s become a North Shore adopted son. This is one part of the three-part act; refining his small wave punt skills on the small dreary days.
