John Florence Will Win WA (Here’s Why)

To be fair, our local expert called it last time.

WA is underway RN, it will most likely not run at the Box for the opening few days, which means (mostly) rail surfing in medium sized-junky Main Break gon determine the early round winners.

JJF redefined what high-performance surfing looks like in the big waves courtesy of his performances in WA over the years. John is a 2x winner previously, and as the title of this article implies, we genuinely think he’s gonna win (so much so that we bet big money on the inevitable outcome).

But we’re not the only ones who believe that JJF will get his first dub of the year in WA. Prior to the event’s start, we asked Margaret River Boardriders President and local surf lord, Jerome Forrest, who looked good to take out the event. At Bells when we got a local to give us his picks, he was spot on about the eventual winner.

Based on conditions, Jerome went with John Florence (+200) or Filipe Toldeo (+350) as his favorites with Joao Chianca (+3300) and Jackson Baker (+6600) as his male darkhorses.

For the women, Jerome chose Carissa Moore (+300) and Steph Gilmore (+600) as his favorites, with local gal Bronte Macaulay (+3300) as his darkhorse.
